It’s no secret that the quality of a custom tool is directly correlated to the coating. Without the appropriate coating, a tool won’t last nearly as long as it should. When manufacturing custom tools, coatings are essential things to consider. The proper coating truly makes or breaks (sometimes literally) your custom tool.
Built to Last
We’ve talked about this before, but cost and quality usually go hand in hand. The cheaper the tool, the lower the quality and vice versa. Quality tools are made with quality coatings and last much longer.
Tools with the proper coating last longer because they won’t break down as fast. Sure, you may be able to save a few bucks on a cheaper tool, but in the long run, a quality custom tool will last longer and perform better. Believe it or not, it’s more cost effective to consider quality over price.
Maintenance
When you send your tool to be reground, there will also be new coating applied. As long as you keep up with tool maintenance, your tools will be a great investment. Like anything, though, if you just let the tool go, use it for the wrong jobs or anything else, the tool’s life will suffer.
