Can the Defense Industry Unkink Supply Chains to Meet Demands?

In addition to supply chain problems, the aerospace and defense industry is beset by a shortage of qualified workers. Russia’s war on Ukraine has created a demand for increased defense production in the U.S. to replace items withdrawn from its domestic stockpile and to sell to nations intent on increasing their own security.

Ordinarily, requests for more armaments from American manufacturers would be seen as a good thing. At this time, however, domestic producers are grappling with inflation, supply chain kinks, and related issues, including labor shortages and shrinkage in the defense industrial ecosystem.

SME and NAIR Host Aerospace Composites Forum

The SME Composites Technical Community and the National Institute for Aviation Research co-hosted an Aerospace Composites Forum in July at Wichita State University. Leading scientists and engineers from government, industry, and academia discussed trends and offered predictions for the next decade regarding military and commercial aviation needs, as well as the urban air mobility (UAM) market.

U.S. Robot Installations Exceed Pre-Pandemic Level

The World Robotics Report shows that robot installations in the United States were up by 14% to 34,987 units in 2021 – the second most successful year for the robotics industry in the U.S. This exceeded the pre-pandemic level of 33,378 units in 2019. 

Despite several global and regional challenges, the overall expectation for the robotics market in the United States and North America is positive. Robot installations are expected to grow by +15% from 2022 into 2023 as scarcities turn into sales orders.

Methods Opens New Location in California
