United Airlines Pledges $1.25 Million for Aviation and STEM Projects

United Airlines will donate $1.25 million to DonorsChoose to fund aviation, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) projects in Chicago, Denver, Washington, D.C., New York, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and across Hawaii.

United says its contribution will fund all aviation classroom projects currently posted on DonorsChoose, and any remaining funds will be used for more aviation and STEM-focused projects in coming months. 

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit crowdfunding platform for public school teachers seeking funds for school supplies and other program expenses. Projects are vetted and the cost of requested resources are verified by DonorsChoose. There are currently more than 26,000 STEM projects posted on DonorsChoose.

Lockheed Martin & Northrop Grumman Win Transport Satellite Contracts

The Space Development Agency (SDA) awarded a combined $1.5 billion to Lockheed Martin Corp. and Northrop Grumman Corp. to build and operate its Tranche 2 Transport Layer (T2TL) Beta variant prototype constellation. Each company will build and operate 36 satellites in three orbital planes of 12 satellites each.

T2TL will make up a portion of SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA)–formerly known as the National Defense Space Architecture. The PWSA will be separated into two areas: the Transport Layer for data transmission and the Tracking Layer for remote sensing and Earth observation.
