SME Media’s 2024 Call for Nominations: 30 Under 30
Do you know a student or young professional blazing new trails in additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, biomanufacturing or other disciplines? SME wants to hear from you.
SME will highlight 30 outstanding young leaders 30 years old or younger who are creating new paths and breaking the mold of traditional manufacturing.
Nominees must be no older than 30 as of December 31, 2024, and they can be either:
- Young professionals working in the manufacturing business, conducting manufacturing research, or teaching manufacturing trades or manufacturing engineering; or
- Students (K-12 and above) making an impact through or in manufacturing.

Schaeffler Announces New Ohio Automotive Manufacturing Facility
Schaeffler AG is adding a manufacturing facility in Dover, Ohio, focused on producing automotive electric mobility solutions, the company announced today.
Schaeffler is investing $230 million in Ohio by 2032, the company says, in constructing the Dover facility and other expansions. As part of an agreement with the State of Ohio and JobsOhio, the state’s private economic development corporation, Schaeffler will receive incentives via grants and tax credits for these investments.
Construction on the 130,000-square-foot facility will begin in mid-2024, with an estimated completion in late 2025. Schaeffler will manufacture electric axles for light and medium-duty vehicles at the Dover site.

Solarcycle Announces Solar Panel Glass Plant in Georgia
Solarcycle Inc., a solar recycling company, will invest $344 million in a solar glass manufacturing facility in Cedartown, Georgia. The facility will use recycled materials from retired solar panels to make new solar glass and create more than 600 jobs in the area, the company estimates.
The Georgia plant, which will be the first of Solarcycle’s facilities to manufacture glass in addition to recycling solar panels, is scheduled to begin construction in 2024 and be operational in 2026.
